From Story County Watchman August 29, 1890

DIED.--Thursday, August 28th, after a lingering illness Wm. G. Allen. Mr. Allen was born in Madison County, Ohio, August 26, 1816. He moved to Story County in 1856 where he has since resided. He has been prominent in the history of the county and for years held office of various kinds, among which we mention postmaster of Nevada and county surveyor, and to the satisfaction of all concerned. He was highly esteemed by his many friends for his many fine traits of character and as a man who when he made up his mind as to the right or wrong of a matter held rigidly to what he deemed the right. He has done much to aid in developing the resources of Nevada and his name will be handed down as one to whom the city was greatly indebted for a portion of its prosperity. The funeral will be largely attended by the old residents of this section all of whom will drop a tear to his memory. The funeral will take place Saturday.

The funeral of W. G. Allen took place on Saturday last as we stated last week would be the case. The gathering was quite large and the remains were duly laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery.
