Dr. Daugherty, of Colo, died at his home in that city on Sunday evening after a lingering illness. He has been a resident of that place for years and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was a member of the G. A. R. at that place and the funeral ws donducted under the auspices of that post. He leaves a wife and one child.

OBITUARY.--Dr. John Daugherty was born in Jefferson Co., Ohio, February 9th, 1832 and died Sept. 30th, 1889, aged 57 years. Dr. Daugherty was educated in his native county, came to Iowa in 1857, and remained until the breaking out of the Rebellion, when he enlisted in 1868 in Co. K. 8th Iowa Cavalry, with which he served until the close of the war, in June 1865, when he returned to his native state in broken health, consequent upon exposure, and remained until the spring of 1867 when he came again to the State and county were he had remained until his death, practicing his profession in this and adjoining counties during the early years when to do so required, on account of the sparsley settled country an exposure to many hardships which added to the exposure incident to army life, broke his health completely at a comparativel early age.

Dr. Daugherty came of old American stock, his ancestors being the first early settlers of Ohio where his parents died in advanced life and where all his brothers and sisters, three of whom attended the funeral, live. Dr. Daugherty was well and favorably known throughout this and adjoining counties. He was an honorable, upright citizen.

Soon after coming to this county he married Miss Lizzie Hemping, a daughter of one of the leading farmers of this County, who with one their only child survives him and who have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community of Colo and surroundings. The funeral ceremonies were conducted by President Elder Ramsey, under the auspices of the G. A. R. and W. R. C. the first of which the deceased, and the latter the widow, where honored members, and was attended by a large concourse of citizens of Colo and vicinity. Thus one among our oldest and best citizens has been called from Labor to his Eternal Reward.

Mrs. Daugherty desires in this connection to extend her heartfelt thanks to the numerous neighbors and friends for their many, many acts of kindness and sympathy during the long illness of her husband and for the great care taken in arranging and completing the funeral ceremonies.
