THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, November 2, 2010.

E. Bernadine McDonald, 93, of Ames, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House. Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, with Father Secora presiding. The family requests casual dress. Inurnment will be at a later date.

E. Bernadine McDonald was born Feb. 14, 1917, to John and Gertrude (Christopher) Wheelock. She graduated from Fernald High School. She attended AIB for two years and received her secretarial degree. Following her education, she served in the U.S. Navy and was involved in the WAVES. She also attended DePaul College in Chicago and Iowa State University in Ames. She was married to James Patrick McDonald, and to this union four children were born, Mary Patricia, James Richard, John Christopher and Catherine Ann.

She was a Eucharistic minister and enjoyed Catholic Daughters, the opera guild and the senior citizen center. She was involved in the American Legion Post 37. She enjoyed attending the Ames International Orchestra Festival.

She is survived by one son, John (Deb) McDonald; two daughters, Mary McDonald and Catherine (Hutch) Broadie; grandchildren, James Patrick McDonald and Timothy Michael Broadie; and four sisters, Elizabeth (Ed) Clark, Gertrude Fitzgerald, Patricia Beach and Jonnie (Mel) Bell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Richard; and two sisters, Isabel and Barbara.
