On Wednesday morning, 17th, our people of Maxwell were startled by the announcement that John A. Hawkins, the owner and proprietor of our Barber Shop, had died at 8:30 a. m. We all knew that Mr. H. was in poor health, and had been confined to the house for several weeks with consumption, but none of us thought him so near the end. He was a man very highly respected by the people of Maxwell, and hence his death is sorely frlt. The funeral took place on Friday at 11 a. m., being in charge of the Odd Fellows. The remains were taken to the C. P. Church, which was filled to its utmost capacity. The choir furnished excellent music. Rev. Ferguson read the scriptures and offered prayer. Rev. Ferguson then spoke on the life and character of the deceased, paying a high tribute to his memory. The burial service of the Odd Fellows was then read by J. W. Maxwell, after which the remains were viewed by the concourse of people present, and then laid to rest in our cemetery. Mr. H.; had just finished a nice home before his health failed. Mrs. H., is a most excellent lady, and has the sympathy of the entire community in her sore bereavement.
