DEATH OF CHARLES P. MURPHEY

Charles P. Murphey, only son of the late Henry P. Murphey and of Mrs. Margaret Murphey of this city died Sunday morning at Encampment, Wyoming after an illness of a few weeks. His death was the result of quick consumption following a severe cold taken early in the fall. His sister Miss Rose Murphey was with him for a couple of weeks having been called there from Huntington, Nebraska where she was visitiing her sister Mrs. Baird; but was compelled to leave him last Wednesday. His condition was then very serious but such a speedy end of his illness was not anticipated and he was in the care of wholly competent nurses secured by his Masonic brethren. Encampment where he died is a little mining town forty five miles from the Union Pacific railroad and to bring the body back home was hardly practicable at present and he was accordingly buried there by the lodge that had cared for him. The deceased was born in Nevada February 12, 1867 and died as above stated November 29, 1903 aged 36 years, 9 months and 17 days. He was reared here, conducted the harness business of his father here for a time after the latter's death in 1887. From there he went to Cedar Rapids, Nebraska and remained there until about a year and a half ago, when he went to Encampment, Wyoming. He was unmarried and with his death there goes the only man deriving his name from his father, H. F. Murphey or from his uncle, W. C. Murphey both of whom came to this country in the early days, were among its most esteemed pioneers and reared large families in which daughters largely predominated. He died on the eighteenth anniversary of the death of his father and he will be deeply mourned not only by the family but also by many associates of his younger days in Nevada.
