OBITUARY OF O. J. RITLAND

Olaus J. Ritland was born November 29, 1866, on a farm near Roland and passed away July 23, 1934, at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 24 days. His parents were John and Inger Ritland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

The greater part of his boyhood were spent on the farm with his parents. At the age of about 25 years he moved to a farm southwest of Garden City which has since been his home.

He was united in marriage June 29, 1893 to Osa Rebecca Lee. To this union ten children were born. One daughter, Ethel, preceded him in death November 16, 1929 at the age of 13 years. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and children, Joseph at home, Oscar of Hubbard, Ida, Howard, Hazel, Pearl, Ernest, Lester and Genevieve all of Radcliffe, five grandchildren, three brothers, Bernard and Osmund of McCallsburg and Lewis of Roland, three sisters, Mrs. N. C. Logan of Ada, Minn., Mrs. Jonas Johnson of Randall and Mrs. Louise Williamson of Grafton, N. D., besides many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Ritland was a highly respected citizen, a good neighbor, a kind a loving husband and father, and will be greatly missed by all. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran church which he attended regularly until the time of his illness.

He suffered a paralytic stroke about five years ago, from which he never recovered. He was a patient sufferer and complained little of pain. During the last months he gradually grew weaker and toward the end failed rapidly. He realized the end was near and looked forward to a heavenly home, where there is no suffering. Blessed be his memory.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 26, from the home at 1 o'clock and at Zion Lutheran church at 1:30, conducted by his pastor, Rev. H. N. Bakke, assisted by Rev. G. O. Paulsrud, who spoke in the Norwegian language. Beautiful music was rendered by Elvina Johnson, who sang "We're Going Down the Valley One by One," Mrs. O. E. Ritland, who sang "There'll Be No Tears in Paradise," "Kommer Til Dig," by Randall Hatteberg, and "Watching and Waiting for Me," by the choir. There were many beautiful floral offerings from the relatives and friends and also gifts of money given to missions in his memory. The pall bearers were his five sons and a nephew, Robert E. Lee, Jr. Interment was made in Zion church cemetery.
