FUNERAL HELD FOR FORMER RESIDENT

BODY OF CYRUS GROVE OF ELDORA BROUGHT HERE FOR BURIAL LAST WEEK

Funeral Services were held Friday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Grove and at Salem Lutheran church for Cyrus T. Grove of Eldora, former resident of this community, who died Tuesday last week.

Rev. Olaf Holen officiated at the services. A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Boyd, Mrs. Cyrus Thompson and Jos. O. Johnson, sang two numbers, "Jesus Lover of My Soul," and "God Will Take Care of Your," accompanied by the organist, Mrs. M. M. Eggland. The pall bearers were Knutie Hammersland, Hansell Christian, Amos Quam, Palmer Teig, Willard Grove and Victor Duea. Interment took place at the Roland cemetery.

Cyrus Thomas Grove, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jondall, was born February 15, 1903, and died May 15, 1934, at the Ellsworth hospital at Iowa Falls, at the age of 31 years and 3 months.

His mother died when he was an infant and his father died a year later. Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Grove adopted him at that time and raised him to manhood. He attended the Roland school and Capital City Commercial college in Des Moines. He was baptized by Rev. Whitman and confirmed by Rev. J. N. Sandven.

He was married March 4, 1927, to Miss Esther Howen, Rev. Olaf Holen performing the ceremony. To this union two children were born, Charlene Sue, age 5, and Elizabeth Ann, age 2.

After his marriage he was engaged in farming in this community, where he had always lived, and the last two years he lived on farms in Hardin county, first near New Providence and later near Eldora.

Besides his wife and two children, he leaves his foster parents, Mrs. and Mrs. M. N. Grove, and one sister, Mrs. Andrew Tjelmeland, all of this place, and a large number of other relatives.

Mr. Grove was taken ill with appendicitis a month ago and submitted to an operation at the hospital at Iowa Falls. He seemed to be improved and was returned home, but then was taken ill with pneumonia. After his fever left him he was again taken to the hospital and an operation performed for empyema, but he was not able to withstand the ravages of the disease and passed away on Tuesday last week.
