FORMER RESIDENT DIED
Mrs. L. W. Weeks of Neward, Ill., a former resident of this place, died Friday after two months illness. The body was shipped here and burial was made yesterday in the Roland cemetery.
Mrs. L. W. Weeks was born in the town of Nettle Creek, Grundy county, Ill., June 19, 1859. Her parents were Anders and Ingeborg Mathre. She was baptized and confirmed by Rev. P. A. Rasmussen.
When 24 years old she moved to Story City, Iowa, and on November 2, 1885, she was married by Rev. P. A. Rasmussen to Henry Duea of Roland. They made their home in Roland for the next twenty years, with the exception of seven years, when Mr. Duea was county recorder and they lived in Nevada.
Four children were born to this union, three of which died in infancy. The surviving son, Severt Duea, lives at Fairbank, Alaska. Henry Duea died May 18, 1905.
On December 28, 1911, she was married to L. W. Weeks of Newark, Ill., where she lived from then on. She was taken ill two months ago and died May 4, 1934, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 15 days.
She leaves her aged husband, her son Severt, and eight step-children, all of whom live at Newark, Ill. She also leaves three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Charley Hove of Jewell, Mrs. E. P. Anderson of Story City, Mrs. J. B. Orim of Stratford, Peter Mathre of Ames, and Herbert Mathre of Davis Junction, Ill.
Mrs. Weeks was a member of the North Lisbon congregation and was very active in the ladies aid, Sunday school, prayer meetings, and other activities of her church. The funeral was held there Monday, with Rev. Nils Klungtvedt and Rev. T. J. Knutson officiating. The body was then shipped here for burial and a short service was held at the cemetery Tuesday afternoon with Rev. T. T. Heimarck of Story City officiating. Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Boyd sang two duets, "Peace, Sweet Peace," and "It Is Well With My Soul." Pall bearers were nephews and other relatives of the deceased.
Those from Illinois who were here for the burial were her husband, Mr. Weeks, also Mr. and Mrs. Hans Hextell, Mrs. Mittie Mickelson, Mrs. Otto Anderson and Thomas L. Weeks, of Neward, Ill., and Herbert Mathre of Davis Junction, Ill. They arrived here yesterday noon and returned to their homes today.
