Rest at Last For Aged Lady

Mrs. Ole R. Anderson Passed Quietly Away at Her Home Last Friday Noon, After Having Been a Patient Sufferer For More Than Twenty Years With Rheumatism, Funeral Held Monday

Death at last relieved the suffering of Mrs. Ole R. Anderson (Skaaren) last Saturday, when she passed to her final rest. Words cannot express the feeling of gratitude with which the news spread throughout the town, as it was well known how long and terrible had been her suffering. Twenty-one years ago last Christmas, she was taken serious ill with rheumatism and from that time on until her death she had been a helpless cripple. At no time had she been able to move a limb, and had to be handled as a child. She required constant attention and the care of her was a burden to those about her, but never during all her suffering was a word of complaint heard. She silently bore her suffering and longed for the day when she should be called to join her Savior in the Heavenly Home, where suffering is unknown.

Mrs. Siri (Skaaren) Anderson was born in Tungesvig in Skaanevigs prestegjeld, Norway, on May 6, 1825. In 1870 she was married to Ole R. Anderson and in 1872 they came to this country a couple years later moving onto a farm two miles east of town, where they lived until nearly twelve years ago, when they moved to Roland. Besides her sorrowing husband, she leaves a son, Rasmus H. Thompson, of Jackson, Minn., and a brother, Ole Larson, of Esthervillle, Iowa, to mourn her death. On Saturday April 1, 1911, she was called as quietly away as she had lived and suffered. Her husband was in the next room and heard her gasp a couple times and upon entering the room, he saw her expire.

The funeral was held from Bergen church on Monday afternoon, Rev. G. Smedal preaching the funeral sermon after which the remains were laid to rest in the Roland cemetery. Among those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ole Norem, Miss Emma Norem, of Marshalltown; Mrs. Ellen M. Lund, of Randall, Mrs. Andrew Thompson and Mr. Nels Norem, of McCallsburg; Messrs Hans and J. Dahlstoll and Ole Larson, of Estherville; Rasmus H. Thompson of Jackson, Minn. The sorrowing husband is extended the sympathy of his numerous friends in the hour of his bereavement.
