Former Howard Citizen Dead

E. C. Fenn left last Thursday for Camanche to see his father G. A. Fenn, who had been poorly for some time. The elder Mr. Fenn died last Saturday evening and on Monday Mrs. E. C. Fenn and H. E. Carpenter left for Camanche to be present at the funeral which was held on Tuesday. He hope to be able to give a further obituary of Mr. Fenn, as he was one of the first settlers of Howard township, having for a number of years lived on the farm now owned by O. O. Hegland and farmed by John Jacobson.

Obituary of Giles A. Fenn

Former Pioneer Citizen Passed Away at the Age of 71 Years at His Home at Camanche, Moved From Here About 23 Years Ago, After Having Lived Here Since the War

Giles Alfred Fenn was born February 18, 1840, at Terryville, Conn., where he lived until 1856, when he came west and settled at Camanche. Here he was united in marriage to Miss Frances McKinney. In 1866 they moved to Story County, settling on a farm one mile north of Roland, this farm being still known as the old Fenn farm. To this union was born four children, two of whom died in infancy and the others being John L. Fenn, of Camanche, and Edwin C. Fenn of this place. In November 1876, Mrs. Fenn died and a couple years later Mr. Fenn was joined in marriage to Laura S. Bohart, to which union four children were born, two of whom with their mother are left to mourn the death of a husband and father. They are Luther L. Fenn and Camila Fenn. The other children died in infancy.

The Fenn family lived on the farm north of here until 1888, when they moved back to Camanche, where they have since resided with the exception of one year that they spent at Arkansas City, Kansas.

During the past year or more Mr. Fenn has been declining until the last week in March, when he had to take to the bed and he gradually failed until he passed away on April 1, 1911, at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 13 days. The funeral was held on the following Tuesday and interment took place in the Camanche cemetery. His son, E. C. Fenn, of this place, was present at his deathbed and at the funeral, as were Mrs. Fenn and H. E. Carpenter of this place.
