Former Howard Resident Dead

Mrs. Sjur Duea Died at Her Son's Home at Ihlen, Minn. Last Week, After a Month's Sickness. Formerly Lived Near This Place, But Moved Away About Twenty-Four Years Ago

A message was received here last Tuesday announcing the death of Mrs. Sjur Duea at the home of her son, Wier C. Duea, at Ihlen, Minn., the cause of her death being asthma and heart trouble. Her death was not unexpected, but there are many relatives and friends here who will deeply mourn her death.

Betsy Wierson was born in Bergen, Norway, June 9, 1836 and at the age of eighteen she came to this country settling near Lisbon, Ill, at which place she was married to Shur C. Duea in 1861. Shortly afterwards they moved to Story County, settling on the farm now owned by John Evenson, one mile west of town. Here they lived until 1887, when they moved with their children to Pipestone, Minn., where they lived on a farm until the death of Mr. Duea in 1903. Since her husband's death, she has made her home with her son Wier C. Duea and family.

Mrs. Duea was the mother of ten children, seven of whom survive her. They are Wier C., of Ihlen, Minn.; Joseph C. of Sherman, S. D.; Martin C. and Randolf C., of Sharon, N. D.; Severt R. of Ruthton, Minn.; Mrs. Julia Anderson, of Sharon, N. D. and Mrs. Carrie Sabie, of Ihlen, Minn. Henry C. Duea, who died here nearly six years ago was also a son of Mr. and Mrs. Duea. The deceased was a sister of the last Ole Wierson of this place and her husband was a brother of the late Jonas Duea, also of this place.

All of the children were present at her death bed with the exception of Severt B. Duea, who was at St. Paul in attendance at the legislature of which he is a member as senator. He reached home in time for the funeral.

The funeral was held from the Ihlen church, the funeral being conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. D. Swalestuen, of Jasper, Minn., and her nephew, Rev. Edward Duea of Blue Earth, Minn. Interment took place in the Ihlen cemetery. Mrs. H C. Duea, formerly of this place, but now a resident of Story City was present during the last sickness and death of Mrs. Duea.

Those who knew Mrs. Duea speak of her in the most kindly terms, and state that she was a most loving wife and mother and devoted to her children and died in the faith of the Savior, in whose presence she hoped to meet all her loved ones.
