Mrs. Inger Opstvedt was born in Norway, Europe, April 9, 1829, and died at her home north of town on Sunday morning, September 12, 1909, being 80 years, 5 months and 3 days old. She was married in Norway to Halvor Opstvedt, to which union four children were born, all of whom were present at the death bed. They are Mrs. Anfin Anfinson, who lived about six miles northwest of here; Torres Opstvedt, who lives on the old homestead; Sam and Severt, both of whom made their home with their mother.
In 1856 she came with her husband to this country, settling in Illinois, but moved the next year to Story county, where they settled on the farm at which place she died. Her husband was a veteran of the Civil War and died about 28 years ago. Her son Torres has been working the farm and she made her home with them.
Last spring she was a little feeble, but became very much better until the last week, when a noticeable decline came, and she passed away quietly to her rest surrounded by her children.
The funeral services were held from Bergen church Tuesday afternoon, a large number of friends and relatives being present to pay their respects to one of the early pioneers of the township. Rev. G. Smedal officiated, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Roland cemetery. The sorrowing family are extended the sympathy of a large number of friends.
