Theodore ‘Ted’ Robert Fariss
Ted passed away Feb. 18, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, after a courageous battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at the Maxwell Community Center in Maxwell.
He was born June 25, 1944, in Des Moines. He attended high school in Sioux City and obtained his undergraduate degree in finance at Morningside College. He earned his MBA from Oklahoma University. Ted was an Eagle Scout. He was quite the entrepreneur and was involved in several successful businesses in Texas and Oklahoma. In 1988, Ted moved back to the family farm south of Maxwell, and became a master conservationist with an expansive knowledge of native grasses and flowers.
Ted was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing, especially with his Boykin Spaniels. He planted native prairie wildlife areas and built several ponds on his farm to provide more wildlife habitat. To ensure his passion for the outdoors survives his passing, Ted provided that the bulk of his estate will go to the acquisition of public hunting areas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Fariss, and his mother, Elsie (Nutt) Fariss.
