BURG MEN IN FATAL WRECK

TOM CONLEY DEAD AND JOHN BERGLAND SERIOUSLY INJURED

Tom Conley, 44, farmer south of McCallsburg, is dead and John Bergland, McCallsburg produce dealer, is lying in serious condition in a hospital in Elmhurst, Wet Chicago suburb, as a result of a grade crossing crash there early last Wednesday morning.

According to the information at hand, Bergland had invited Conley to accompany him to Chicago with a load of poultry. Conley was driving the truck when the fast train struck them at a crossing and carried them for nearly 500 feet.

The men were taken to the hospital, where Conley regained consciousness and advised the authorities whom to notify. He died later in the day. Bergland did not regain consciousness until the following morning. He sustained a fractured skull and a fractured bone in the leg, besides other injuries.

Relatives of the two men were notified of the accident and left for that place the same day.
