Death Notice
Lila N. Uthe, 87, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Story Senior Care Center in Nevada. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18, at Bacon Funeral Home in nevada.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Lila Naomi Uthe, 87, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada, surrounded by family. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada, with burial following in Nevada Catholic Cemetery.
Lila was born Dec. 1, 1922, in Gilbert, to Arthur and Alma (Anderson) Mortvedt. The oldest of three children, Lila graduated from Gilbert High School. She married Sylvester Uthe Jan. 18, 1944, at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in rural Gilbert. They raised five children instilling the importance of family and faith.
The family lived on a farm south of Ames, and in 1970, they bought a farm south of Nevada where they lived for more than 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, listening to farm markets and spoiling her grandchildren who kept her young at heart.
She is survived by her children, Linda Uthe, of Nevada, Marlene (Lyle) Borkowski, of Manning, Karen (Alan) Knaphus, of McCallsburg, and Doug (Sue) Uthe, of Nevada; and one brother, Wendell (Marilyn) Mortvedt, of Slater. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Renee and Ross Uthe and Kari and Amy Borkowski.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Sylvester; one daughter, Anita Uthe; her parents; and one brother, Marvin.
