Gary Arlin Valland died suddenly at his home in Brazil. Gary was born in Radcliffe to Arlin and Ruby Valland. He graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1971. He was a talented musician and loved to perform with his bands prior to moving to Brazil. He had made his home in Brazil since 1979. He loved Brazil. He taught English and did English translation.

He is survived by his sons, Tacio (Clara and Yuri Valland; their mother, Sylvia Santos; and the pride and joy of his life, his two grandsons, Tito and Lara Valland, all of Brazil; his mother, Ruby Olson; sisters, Cindi Twedt and Suzy (Bill) Hess, all of Story City; nephews Aaron Twedt of Ellsworth, Cory (Tammy) Twedt of Ankeny, Jeremy Hess of Story City; nieces Julie (Travis) Shelton of Ellsworth, Amber Holme and Cassie Eckley of Des Moines, Lindsey (Tom) Gorzelanny of Chicago, and Ashley (Shawn) Miller of Huxley; and six great-nieces.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Arlin Valland on Dec. 17, 1986, sister Sharon Janes on Sept. 29, 1997, and niece Jill Hess on Dec. 30, 1983.

There will be a celebration of Gary's life on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City.
