Alice Sapp, 89, of Urbandale, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at Methodist West Clinic, Clive, Iowa, following a cardiac arrest at her home on Monday.
The family received friends at 10:00 a.m. with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City. Burial was at the Story City Municipal Cemetery.
Alice was born Dec. 11, 1919 in Warsaw, Minnesota, the daughter of Elmer and Ruth (Tigland) Amensen. She graduated from Roland High School and married Verne A. Hill on March 21, 1940 in Roland. Alice and Verne moved to Story City where they raised three children, Danny, Karen and Verne.
Alice worked at Collegiate Manufacturing in Ames and later at Parker Bros., Urbandale. Alice later married James E. Sapp on June 3, 1967 in Roland. She enjoyed reading, crafts and quilting, bestowing her family members with an assortment of beautiful handmade treasures. Alice loved time with her family and had a special bond with her grandson, Jamie Hill.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Bob) Stangeland of West Des Moines; daughter-in-law, Sharon (Dan, dec.) Hill of Waukee; stepdaughters, Betty (Don) Bell of Des Moines, and Linda Jones of Texas; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her sons; a daughter-in-law Roxane Joens-Matre; and a great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Iowa Heart Association.
