Reuben James Weltha passed away Oct, 6 at the age of 88. Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 at the Holly Hills Mausoleum Chapel in Granbury, Texas. Burial was in the Holly Hills Memorial Park.
Mr. Weltha was born Sept 24, 1921 in Randall, Iowa. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. He was the Squadron Operations Officer and flew missions in England, Italy, the Middle East and while still a 2nd Lt led the 15th Air Force on the first raid on Augsburg, Germany, Dec 19, 1943. After 50 bombing missions Captain Weltha returned in 1944, and was discharged on July 5, 1945.
Reuben graduated from Iowa State University with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1948. He moved several times to work for different companies nationwide until settling for ten years at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas.
He and his wife, Bernice, retired to Rock Harbor, Granbury, Texas in April, 1977. They were active motor cyclists for 45 years, attending rallies extensively throughout the USA and Canada. Those who knew Reuben appreciated his ingenious abilities to solve problems and help others with a priceless sense of unique humor.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Bernice; children Gary, Jim, Daniel, and Loann; three grandsons, two granddaughters, one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Duane, Bill and Lawrence, and four sisters, Charlotte, Betty, Joann and Jean.
Memorials may be made to Happy Hill Children's Home.
