THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, October 30, 2009.

Mary Ailene Stout Williams passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at Central Presbyterian Church, 932 Fifth St., in Nevada, with the Rev. Scott Milsom officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Ailene was born July 7, 1919, in Brighton, to Benjamin Franklin and Emma (Bohlman) Stout. She graduated from Iowa Teachers’ College in Cedar Falls and taught for a number of years in Libertyville, where she met her lifelong spouse. On Aug. 27, 1942, she married Donald Lee Williams, of Fairfield. After the war, they started Williams Cylinder Company in Ames, moving to Nevada in 1947. She was the bookkeeper for the business until 1992 when they retired. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, and especially traveling to visit her family and friends. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and Indian Creek Country Club for more than 50 years.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Donald Lee Williams, of Nevada; and by her daughters, Donna Smith and husband, Don, of Isle of Palms, S.C., and Cathy Twedt and husband, Dean, of Milton, W.V. Her grandchildren include Ryan Smith and wife, Candice, of Andover, N.J., Eric Smith and wife, Eliana, of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Carrie Ann Twedt Phillips and husband, Joel, of Greenville, S.C.; and her great-grandchildren include Matthew, Gregory and Rosemilee Smith, and Ashton and Ava Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and two sisters.

Memorials may be directed to Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada or a charity of your choice.

Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with Ailene and her family.
