THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, June 17, 2009.

Verna Schiebel, 88, of Conrad, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad, while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at Conrad United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Conrad Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad.

Verna was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Liscomb, the daughter of Harry and Bertha (Lewis) Small. After graduating from Liscomb High School, she continued her education at Des Moines Beauty School. On May 24, 1941, she married W. Darrel Schiebel. She was a homemaker and farmed with Darrel in the Liscomb and Conrad areas. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling and fishing. She also was known as a great cook. She was a member of Conrad United Methodist Church where she was involved with UMW.

She is survived by her husband, Darrel; two daughters, LaDonna (Dean) Sharp, of Conrad, and Deanna (Tom) Jordan, of Ames; three sons, Wayne (Judy) Schiebel, of Liscomb, Alan (Pat) Schiebel, of Conrad, and Steve Scheibel, of Conrad; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Brian Schiebel and Rodney Sharp; one great-grandchild, Savannah Jordan; one sister, Alice Gould; and three brothers, Clarence, Harry and John Small.
