THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, June 17, 2009.

Lester P. Larson, 88, of Ames, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at Madrid Home. A private memorial service will be held.

He married Helen Johnson Feb. 25, 1946. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He retired from Iowa State University in 1982. He loved flying, fishing and reading.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Larson, of Madrid; two daughters, Terry (Don) Van Houweling, of Perry, and Sharon (Joe) Colletti, of Ames; one son, Mark Larson, of Ames; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Virgil (Dorothy) Larson, of Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Merlin Larson.

Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
