THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, May 29, 2009.

Otis S. Boyd, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Randy Kasch officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 29, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel in Cedar Rapids, and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Otis was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Roland, the son of Otis and Olive Heggland Boyd Sr. He married Joyce E. Wakeland Aug. 28, 1947, in St. Paul, Minn. He worked for Wilson/Farmstead Foods as a plant engineer. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and sang in the Norsemen Quartet as well as many other groups. He served in the Army during World War II. His hobbies included photography, golfing, winemaking and sketching. He was a loving husband and father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Joyce; his children, Susan Witt and husband, Jeff, of Spring Lake, Minn., Steve Boyd and wife, Connie, of Slater, Deb Gardner and husband, Mark, of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Jeffrey Boyd and wife, Julie, of Troy, Mo.; and his grandchildren, David, Sarah, Daniel, Brandt, Tim, Laura, Andrew, Jessica and Courtney.

His parents; two sisters, Paula and Dorothy; and two brothers, Robert and Donald, preceded him in death.
