Doris Kathryn Bayer Feb. 8, 1923 - June 23, 1999

Doris Kathryn Bayer, 76, of Detroit, Mich., died of cancer Wednesday at Bonsecours Hospital in Grosse Pointe, Mich. Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Doris Kathryn Bayer was born in Farrar, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph V. and Christena M. (Link) Bailey. She grew up near Maxwell, and her family moved to a farm northeast of Ames in 1939. She graduated from Milford Township High School in 1941. She lived most of her life in Mount Clemens and Detroit, Mich. During her youth she served in 4-H and a Methodist youth group in the Ames area. She was a member of the PTA in McComb County, Mich., and was president of the Women's Auxiliary of Mount Clemens Hospital. She was also a graduate of Dale Carnegie and taught Dale Carnegie courses. She served as a delegate of the Democratic party.

Survivors include a daughter, Tina Dawn Massin of Ypsilanti, Mich.; a son, Christopher Clark Massin of Detroit, Mich.; and a sister, Ila M. Nerness of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames is handling arrangements.
