STATE CENTER—Funeral services for Miss Amy Gilbert, 58, prominent club leader who died at her home here Friday afternoon, were held Sunday afternoon. The services were at the Presbyterian church with the Rev. William Roberts in charge. Burial was in Hillside cemetery.
Miss Gilbert bad beea ill for some time. Last October she underwent an operation at a Marshalltown hospital and returned to her home here two weeks ago.
Miss Gilbert came to State Center in 1878. She was graduated from the State Center high school and attended Iowa State college. Later she attended a normal Institute in Marshall county and taught several terms in the State Center grade schools.
In 1901 Miss Gilbert became a partner of the Elmer Benson dry goods store and continued her business association until five years ago. She served as regent of the Iowa Daughters of the American Revolution in 1918 and the following year was elected vice-general of the national society D. A. R. At the time of her death she was regent of the Lucy Fellows chapter, D. A. R., of State Center, an office she had held for many years. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames of 1812 and chapter CF, P. E. 0.
