Austin "Ozzie" Nowlin, 71, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at Israel Family Hospice House. Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Austin "Ozzie" Nowlin, 71, of Ames, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Adams Funeral Home in Ames, with Father Terry Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the Adams Funeral Home.

Austin "Ozzie" Nowlin was born Jan. 17, 1937, in Ames, to Charles and Thelma (Houghan) Nowlin. He was a 1956 Ames High School graduate. Ozzie worked as a water treatment plant operator, retiring in 1999. He married Karen Compton in 1958. Ozzie was a loving grandfather and enjoyed his Harley trips, trips to Arizona and NASCAR.

Survivors include his former wife and good friend, Karen Popelka, of Ames; children, Tracy Nowlin, of Ames, Bobby Nowlin, of Ames, and Tad (Tami) Nowlin, of Peoria, Ariz.; sister, Patricia (Pat) Billau, and her husband, Ken, of Simi Valley, Calif.; and four granddaughters, Taylor, Payton, Tatum and Tori Nowlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard.

Memorials may be directed to the Israel Family Hospice House of Ames.
