Sylvester P. Peakin, 95, formerly of Colo, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colo.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.
Sylvester was born Feb. 20, 1913, in Colo, the son of Patrick John and Amelia (Biensen) Peakin. He graduated from Colo High School in 1930. He married Emily Oliver on March 29, 1943, in Ames. She preceded him in death in July 1987.
He was a farmer and a crop adjuster salesman. He was a member of Colo St. Mary's Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was born, raised and farmed in the Colo area all his life.
He is survived by one son, Patrick (Linda) Peakin, of Colo; two daughters, Roberta (Jerry) Cable-Matheason, of Story City, and Janice (Mark) Krausman, of Nevada, six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant son; one granddaughter, Patsy Cable; and one brother, Wilbert Peakin.
Memorials may be given to Colo Fire and Rescue Department.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
