Elizabeth M. Gauger, 54, of Ankeny, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at Israel Family House Hospice in Ames. Liz was born March 22, 1954, in Hugoton, Kan. She grew up in Ames, where her parents Dean and Erma helped shape her vibrant personality that throughout the years, filled the lives of all those around her. She truly had a genuine light, and everything that she did was done so with impeccable passion. Antiquing on the way to dance competitions, cross-country Harley trips, being the friend you thank God for every day … she just always had that comforting glow about her. Even on those days when things weren't good, somehow her spirit was always projected through her blue eyes. It was almost like looking at an ocean view, and just like that you felt the ocean's breeze, blowing away all your worries. The feeling of joy, and true value was something she always made you aware of. Not necessarily through verbal communication. Her smile that was always followed by her unforgettable laugh, that was her way of bringing life to any and every aspect of life.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Gauger, of Ankeny; daughters, Kristina (Jason) Schaben and children, Dylan and Samantha, of Nevada, and Chelsea Gauger, of Ames; parents, Dean and Erma Flummerfelt, of Ames; brother, Michael (Diane) Flummerfelt; father and mother-in-law, John and Margaret Gauger, of Boone; sister-in-law, Jean (John) Torkildson, of Boone; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and an uncle.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Melanoma Research Foundation, 170 Township Line Road, Building B, Hillsborough, N.J. 08844, or Israel Family Hospice House, 400 South Dakota Ave., Ames, IA, 50010.
