Gayle Lovette Anderson, Aug. 25, 1938, to Jan. 7, 2003
Gayle Lovette Anderson, 64, died Jan. 7 in Baker City, Ore.
She was born to Carl and Hazel Anderson in Boone and grew up on farms north of Boone and south of Nevada. During her sophomore year in high school, her family moved to Ames, and she graduated from Ames High School in 1956. She married David Peter Anderson during their senior year in college at Iowa State, graduating Suma Cum Laude within three years, and realized her dream of moving to the mountains of Oregon in 1959. There she and her husband of 35 years raised two children. The Cascade Mountains brought Gayle peace and closeness to God and nature and she spent as much time as possible hiking, horseback riding and photographing the trees, streams, alpine flowers, rocks and driftwood.
She loved animals and had faithful cats, as well as dogs and horses. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed recreating beautiful, naturally landscaped yards. She was also an excellent cook. She was a member of the LDS church and enjoyed teaching there. She had many good friends in Baker City and the family's gratitude goes out to them. Thanks to everyone who took such gentle care of Gayle, especially in her later days.
Survivors include her son, Erin (and Brenda) Anderson of Brigham City, Utah; her daughter, Kristine (and Rick) Dahms of Vashon Island, Wash.; and her brother Lee Anderson of Ashland, Ore.
Funeral services were held Jan. 11 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Baker City, Ore. Donations in Gayle's memory can be made to: The Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203, USA (800) 628-6860, www.nature.org.
