Evelyn Caroline Anderson, 97, of Des Moines, died of respiratory failure on Thursday, Feb. 6, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada, where she had been a resident since October 2002.

She was born Oct. 13, 1905, in Des Moines to Caroll W. and Adaline (Doring) Preston. She married Carl J. Anderson on June 15, 1955, in Des Moines. She was a homemaker and had been employed by Meredith Publishing and the YMCA. She was a 50-plus-year member of Order of the Eastern Star Adelphic Chapter No. 417 O.E.S., Capital Hill Lutheran Church in Des Moines and LaSertoma Club. She had been a lifelong resident of Des Moines. She enjoyed needlework, summers in Clear Lake and reading poetry.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol (and Greg) Madsen of Nevada, and two grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Anderson on July 31, 1994; and a son David Anderson on Feb. 12, 1998.

Graveside services were held Saturday, Feb. 8, at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. A memorial fund has been established at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, 5452 NE 22nd St., Des Moines, Iowa 50313. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
