R. C. HUGHES, PIONEER STORY COUNTY MAN DEAD
R. C. Hughes, a pioneer of Story county but who has been living at Graceville, Minn., for several years died at Marshalltown last evening following an operation at St. Thomas hospital. The body will be brought to Ames this evening and funeral services will be held Monday at 10 o'clock at the Methodist church. Mr Hughes who was about sixty-three years old came to Story county when he was seven years old and lived in Milford township near Pleasant Grove. A few days ago he went to Rochester, Minn., to consult the Drs. Mayo and finding that an operation was necessary he came to Colo to visit his daughter, Mrs. Ollie Wax. While in Colo he moved to the hospital where an operation was performed. He failed to rally from the effects. He is survived by one son, Fay Hughes, of Graceville, and one daughter, Mrs. Wax. Other members of the family are N. I. Hughes, a brother, of Paulina, Mrs. Mary Brown, a sister, of Middle Branch, Neb., Mrs. Robert Dodds, Sioux Rapids, a sister and her daughter Mrs. Frank Morris of Ames. After leaving Ames Mr. Hughes lived a year in Nebraska where his wife died. He had lived near Ames until he was fifty years old.
