THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, June 17, 2008.

Roy Arthur Johnson, 90, of Nevada, died Sunday, June 15, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 20, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Garden Cemetery near Nevada. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Roy Arthur Johnson was born Dec. 11, 1917, at Stewartville, Minn., the son of John C. and Amy Elizabeth (Lawson) Johnson. He was the youngest of four children. He moved to Latimer in 1932 and graduated from high school there in 1936. He married Lorraine Nygaard Aug. 23, 1940, in Coulter. He and Lorraine bought their first hardware store at Bristow in 1947. They moved to Nevada in 1956 where they owned and operated Johnson True Value Hardware until they retired in 1985. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by one son, John, of Nevada; one grandson and his wife, Allen and Holly Johnson, of Lake Forest Park, Wash.; one granddaughter, Nicole Johnson, of Surprise, Ariz.; five great-grandsons; and a special friend, Darlene Allen, of Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Lorraine, on July 13, 2001; two sisters, Alice and Helen; and one brother, Percy.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
