Mrs. Martha Horness, 77, of Roland, who died Saturday, will be buried at the Pleasant Grove cemetery southwest of Roland today. Funeral services were held at that rural church in charge of her pastor, Rev. Olaf Holen, of Salem Lutheran church at Roland.
Death of this pioneer woman occurred at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Childers, in southwest Roland, following an illness of about five weeks duration, during which time she suffered from heart complications. She had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Childers for the past 7 1/2 years.
Mrs. Horness was a native of Norway, Europe, where she was born Mar. 8, 1867.
The aged pioneer of the Pleasant Grove neighborhood leaves six children, as well as many other relatives and a wide circle of friends.---from the Ames Milepost April 8, 1944
