Elmer C. Wendel, 85, Nevada, Iowa, died Sunday afternoon, March 9, 1980, at the Story County Hospital after an illness of several years.
He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 16, 1894 to Rev. Mr. C. D. Wendel and Anna Koenig Wendel. He was married to Louella Stark in Story City, Iowa on March 31, 1920. They have a chosen son, Peter Ban Buskirk of Tucson, Arizona.
He was an employee of the Mathison Motor Company for a number of years and retired in 1965. He was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Nevada, a World War I veteran, a member of American Legion Post No. 48, the Masonic Lodge AF and AM, the Lions International, the Izaac Walton Club and honorary member of the National Izaac Walton.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. C. D. Wendel; his brother Paul of Des Moines, and his brother Dwight of Galveston, Texas.
He leaves to mourn his wife Lou; son Peter, three sisters, Mrs. Merle Dickenson (Lois) of Colo, Mrs. Golden Thompson (Helen) of Des Moines and Mrs. Elmer Mussig (Ruth) of Gladbrook; one brother, George Moody Wendel, Hemet, California; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held from the United Methodist Church in Nevada at 1:30 p.m. March 12. Pastor Harold Wagner was in charge. Burial was at the Story City Municipal Cemetery with Masonic rites.
