Irene Morrow, 93, of Story City, died Monday, March 17, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Visitation will be one hour prior the service.
Irene Morrow was born Nov. 25, 1914, in Missouri Valley, to Bert and Gertrude (Moss) Lewis. She graduated valedictorian at Missouri Valley High School. She was a member of the academic honor society of Phi Beta Kappa while at the University of Nebraska. After her college graduation, she was a schoolteacher and media specialist in the Nebraska towns of Scribner and Omaha.
She married Donald Morrow in June 1940. He died in 1991, and she moved to Story City in 1993. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Lynne (Richard) VanValin, of Ames; one son, David (Jacquelyn) Morrow, of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; one brother, Harlan Lewis, of Modale; one sister, Virginia (Ray) Roark, of Independence, Mo.; four grandchildren, Lisa VanValin, of Minneapolis, Joel VanValin, of St. Paul, Minn., Christopher Morrow, of Berwyn, Ill., and Michael Morrow, of Astoria, Ore.; and one great-grandchild, Dylan Morrow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother; two sisters; and one granddaughter, Vickie VanValin.
Soderstrom Funeral Home of Story City is in charge of arrangements.
