THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, March 6, 2008.
Joseph "Banjo Man" "Popa Jo" Wells, 81, of Creston, died Sunday, March 2, at his home in Creston. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 10, at Powers Funeral Home, at the junction of highways 34 and 25 in Creston, with Pastor Chuck Spindler officiating. Burial will be in Waukee Cemetery.
Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 9, at Powers Funeral Home.
Joe is survived by two daughters, Linda MacDonald, of Kansas City, Mo., and Frances Wells, of Creston; two sons, Arthur (Vicki) Wells, of St. Anthony, and Joseph (Liz) Wells, of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karin; one son, Allen E. Wells; four brothers, Arthur, Merlin, John and Leonard Wells; and three sisters, Violet Ashley, Helen Gregory and Betty Jean Wells.
