Irene Miskell Bowers, 85, of Nevada, died Thursday, March 6, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 10, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with Pastor Myron D. Herzberg officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Evergreen Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Service, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada.
Irene was born Oct. 13, 1922, in Algona, to Noel Emmett and Mayme (Rodgers) Miskell. She was a resident of Story County since 1940. She was a graduate of Fernald High School. She married H. Eugene Bowers Dec. 31, 1949, in Nevada. She worked at Donnelley Marketing for 30 years and retired Nov. 1, 1987. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, 50-year member of Eastern Star 296 of Nevada, Retirement Club and was a Story County Hospital volunteer. She enjoyed gardening and bowling.
She is survived by one son, Mark (Diane Johnson) Bowers, of Ames; one daughter, Linda (Edward) Johnson, of Ames; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and one sister, Evelyn Schuler, of Zearing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene, in January 1971; a twin sister, Josephine; one brother, Billy Joe Miskell; and three sisters, Opal Sparow, Lucille Voogd and Margaret Hogg.
Memorials may be given in honor of Irene to the American Diabetes Association.
