Bobbie "Ike" Miller, 78, of Ames, died Sunday, Feb. 10, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. No services are being planned; the body will be cremated. He will be remembered at an informal gathering of family and friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the American Legion Post 37, 225 Main St., in Ames.
Ike Miller was born Sept. 7, 1929, in Richland, Mo., to Roscoe and Flossie (Bryant) Miller.
Following service with the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956, he returned to Ames to work for Layne Western, drilling wells, until he retired in 1988. He loved his horses and all the work that went with them, especially haying. He enjoyed sitting in his lawn chair, soaking up the country scene and sounds.
He is survived by his wife, Madelyn Miller, of Ames; three daughters, Jeanne Miller, of Mount Pleasant, Judy (Paul) Amundson, of Story City, and Sheila Miller, of Story City; two sons, Byrl Hinderaker, of Denver, Colo., and Tracy (Linda) Miller, of Ames; seven grandchildren, Michael, Bryce, Todd, Timothy, Daniel, Evan and Alicia; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roger (Frances) Miller, Trenton (Barb) Miller and Allen (Carol) Miller; one sister, Mabel Myers; and one sister-in-law, Jan Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Royal and Victor; two sisters, Betty and Mary Sue; one daughter, Jody; one granddaughter, Shannon; and one grandson, William.
The family requests no flowers.
Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
