Robert J. Murken, 79, of Story City, died Saturday, Feb. 10, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Boone. Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery.

Robert J. Murken was born Oct. 27, 1928, in Harrison Township in rural Boone, to Andrew John and Rose E. (Happel) Murken. He married Marjorie Ann Zagel Aug. 9, 1953. He farmed in Story County all of his life and he loved the land. He also worked at Iowa State Power Plant as an equipment operator for 18 years.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of Story City; three sons, Michael (Joan), of New Braunfels, Texas, and Patrick (Jo) and Jeffrey (Cheryl), both of Story City; two daughters, Robyn Murken, of San Antonio, and Heidi (Lincoln) Teichelman, of Dallas, Texas; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Arlo Murken, of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Norma Wienberg, of Chicago, and a sister-in-law, Donna Murken, of rural Gilbert.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Mildred; and one brother, LaVerne Murken.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Soderstrum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
