THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, January 27, 2008.

Louise E. Walters, 85, of Des Moines, died Thursday, Jan. 24, at Scottish Rite Park. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, at Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames.

Louise was born on June 22, 1922, the daughter of Anna Louise Beard and Rev. John V. Madison Sr., in Kingston, Ill. She was a graduate of Morningside College. On April 16, 1943, she was united in marriage to Rev. Dean Walters in Dakota City, Neb. She worked as a clerk at Iowa State University Library and also worked with the Iowa City Public School System. Along with her husband, Rev. Walters, they served parishes in Ames; Pine Grove; Cumberland; Gilmore City; Sioux City; Brookings, S.D.; and Emporia, Kan. They lived in Ames for 19 years and moved to Des Moines in 1998.

She was active in the United Methodist Women and a member of PEO Chapter KM. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and all kinds of handwork.

She is survived by two daughters, Laura Anspach (Glenn), of Des Moines, and E. Joy Nagle (Sars), of Sointula, B.C.; two sons, Marvin Walters, of West Sacramento, Calif., and L. Mark Walters, of Medford, Ore.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Madison Jr. (Lois), of Indiana, and Richard Madison (Ray), of Texas; her sister, Anne Wallace (Charles), of Iowa; and 15 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rev. Dean Walters, and a sister, Kathryn Crabb (Dayrle).

In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames or Cross Point in care of Oakwood United Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill.

Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines is handling arrangements.
