THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, April 5, 2006.

George Maynard Stevens, 74, of Brookline, Missouri died March 20, 2006. Funeral services were held Friday, March 24 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Springfield, Missouri.

George was born on Nov. 21, 1931 in Bellevue, Iowa to George M. and Marie M. Stevens. Like the Mississippi River that flowed nearby, George enjoyed a full and happy life, rolling on in joy and sadness with everyday living which a happy and normal life brings us all

He met Mary Deloris Hanson while in high school in Cherokee, Iowa. They were married June 28, 1951 and were blessed with four children: Mary Jo, Cheryl Ann, Douglas George, and Wayne Alan.

George was always ready to support his church, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, volunteer firemen, part-time police, and Crimestoppers. His first commitment was always to his family. He was a great friend to all he met and always had time to visit with young and old alike. He enjoyed life and never met anyone that was not a friend

He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas, father, mother and sister. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Deloris; two daughters, Mary Jo Cooper of Iowa City, Iowa and Cheryl Ann Watson of Ankeny, Iowa; and a son, Wayne Alan of Story City; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law; a son-in-law; and grandchildren that came to him through marriage, as well as numerous friends and relatives.

Graveside services for family in Story City will be held Wednesday, April 19. Friends can gather with family at the Story City Fire Station for coffee from 4-6 p.m. on that day.

George and his family resided in Story City from 1955 to 1987.
