Francis Nelson, age 87, formerly of Garden City, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, April 5 at 10:30 am. at Zion Lutheran Church in, rural Radcliffe, Iowa, with Rev. Daniel Hart officiating.

The family received friends at Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard, on Tuesday, April 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Frances (Michaelson) Nelson was born Nov. 26, 1918 to Michael and Ida (Lee) Michaelson. She and her brother were born and raised on the family farm outside of Garden City, Iowa.

Although she never taught school, after Frances graduated from high school in 1936, she took regular classes to become a schoolteacher.

While out to see the town sponsored 10-cent movie, Frances and Truman Nelson met. After dating for eight months, the couple was united in marriage on Jan. 25, 1939 at the parsonage in McCallsburg, Iowa. They spent much of their married life on the family farm and raised three children together, Sharon, Faye and Milo. In 1960 the farm was sold and they moved to Garden City.

Frances was a housewife and mother for most of her life. Also, music was a very important part of her life. She was church pianist/organist for about 40 years. After their children were raised Frances went to work as a dental assistant. Frances worked for Dr. Barnes in Story City for 16 years until she retired in 1980.

Following retirement she enjoyed camping with Truman. Their camping memories include an annual trip to Mt. Pleasant for the Thresher's Convention and spending time in Arizona. Frances also enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Truman would rave about the many dresses she crocheted for her daughters that were passed down to granddaughters and great-granddaughters. Most importantly Frances loved her family and was very proud of them.

In 2002, Frances moved to the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard. Although it was a difficult transition, Frances and Truman had each other and enjoyed every moment spent together. They were honored as they were crowned King and Queen of the Hubbard Care Center. It was a special moment for them, making another memory in their 67 years of marriage.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe where she had been active in the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

Those thankful for sharing her life are her husband Truman Nelson of the Hubbard Care Center; her three children, Sharon Berg and her husband Marvin of Fort Dodge, Faye Becker and her husband John of San Diego, California and Milo Nelson and his wife Diana of Garden City; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: Sharon and Marvin Berg's children, Doug and Jane Berg and their children Anthony and Joshua; Kendall and Marie Berg and their children, Brooke and Hawkins; Dara and Stacy Peterson and their children, Brittaney, Brooke and Brenna; Randall and Karla Berg and their children, Jacob, Allie and Tessa; Faye and John Becker's child Eric and Meg Becker; Milo and Diana Nelson's children, Cory Nelson and Stacie Nelson.

Her parents and her only brother, Edward Michaelson preceded her in death.
