Everett Nickolie Nelson, age 86, of Perham, Minnesota, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005. He was being cared for by the staff of the Perham Memorial Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, beginning at 11:00 am. at
Calvary Lutheran Church, Perham, with Reverend Paul Anderson officiating. Burial followed at Grove Lake Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Visitation was held Monday, Dec. 26, 2005 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church and one hour prior to funeral services.Everett was born Aug. 24, 1919 to Nickolie and Helen Emelia (Oscarson) Nelson in Belmond, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Belmond. He graduated from Belmond High School and attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota for one year. He graduated from Waldorf Junior College, St. Olaf College and Luther Theological Seminary. He was ordained into the pastoral ministry in 1945. Everett was united in marriage to Clara Lauretta Haugrud on August 30, 1942 at Grove Lake Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. He served congregations in Ephraim, Wisconsin, Seneca, Illinois, Wessington Springs, South Dakota, Kenyon, Minnesota and Roland, Iowa. He was also involved in community activities including serving on numerous boards. After his retirement in 1984, he and Clara moved to the Perham-Dent area. He served ten years as interim pastor at many churches in that area. He entered the Perham Memorial Nursing Home in August 2002. He continued to be passionate about his faith and shared and lived it daily.
Everett is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Clara, Perham, Minnesota; two sons, Jonathan (Jill), Marquette, Michigan; and Paul (Kathy), Mason City, Iowa; two daughters, Sharon (Daryl) Haarstick, Vergas, Minnesota; and Mary (Dave) Thoresen, Lake Wales, Florida; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Zumbolo; Matthew (Kenza) Nelson; Kristin Nelson; Kimberly (Christopher) Simmons; Jeff, Mark and Thomas Haarstick; and Priya, Shristi and Jonathan Thoresen; and three great-grandchildren, William, Isabella and Evan Zumbolo; three brothers, Norris Nelson, Fergus Falls, Minnesota; Clifford (Elnor) Nelson, St. Cloud, Minnesota; and Reuben (Ellie) Nelson, Belmond, Iowa; two sisters, Mildred Meyer, Toledo, Ohio; and Esther (Roy) Larson, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Pearl and Ruth.
