Laura Mable Kray, age 100, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005 at the Vinton Lutheran Home where she ' had been a resident for the past nine years.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22 at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment was at the St. John Cemetery in Newhall. Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton.
Laura was born Nov. 12, 1905 near Palo to Andrew J. and Sophie (Carlson) Anderson and graduated from the Shellsburg High School. She then attended Coe College.
On Feb. 26, 1930 she married William Kray at St. John Lutheran Church in Eldorado township of Benton County. The couple raised their family and farmed in Benton county. William preceded his wife in death in 1972.
Laura had been a charter member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vinton. She was an active mem ber of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall for many years where she enjoyed membership in the Lamplighters, Tabitha Society and was the organizer of the congregations Quilt Group. She also enjoyed making beautiful braided rugs.
Laura is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dallas and Patricia Kray of Story City; her daughter and son-in-law, Marian and Gordon Thomas of Green Valley, Arizona; her daughter-in-. law, Sherry McLaughlin of Vinton; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Delia McClintock of Shellsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, her son, Arthur McLaughlin, one brother and three sisters preceded her in death.
