THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, December 15, 2007.
John Owen Sams, 68, of Ames, died Thursday, Dec. 13, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. Private burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
John Owen Sams was born Aug. 19, 1939, in Kewanee, Ill., to Wilbur Owen and Wilma (Richards) Sams. He was a graduate of Toulon High School in Illinois. John graduated with a bachelor's degree from Drake University in 1962. He married Rue Ann Vail Sept. 26, 1961. John served as a regional sales manager for Kimball Midwest. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, the Octagon Endowment Committee, Iowa Barn Foundation and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. John enjoyed traveling Iowa.
John is survived by his wife, Rue Ann Sams, of Ames; two daughters, Amy Sams, of Denver, Colo., and Alison (Larry) Casey, of Altoona; one son, Scott (Dawn) Sams, of Indianola; five grandchildren, Nathan, Joseph and Shae Sams, and Jack and Julia Casey; one brother, Steve (Jan) Sams, of Galva, Ill.; and special cousins, Fred Sams and Mary Brant.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Bethesda Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John's memory.Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with John and his family.
