Michael S. Jensen, 47, of Ames, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames following a long hard-fought battle with cancer. A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 17, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care. A celebration of life for Mike will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Collegiate United Methodist Church, with burial at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Michael S. Jensen was born April 8, 1960, in Manhattan, Kan., the son of Clifford and Edith (Zarger) Jensen. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 1978 and Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kan., where he was JUCO All-American offensive tackle before transferring to Iowa State University where he was a letter winner in football. Mike earned a bachelor's degree in business in 1983. He married Jill Bryant June 14, 1986, at Collegiate United Methodist Church. Jill and Mike resided in Kansas City where Mike worked for Ruan Transportation Company for three years. Mike and Jill then moved to Minden, Neb., and made their home there for eight years before returning to Ames in 1997. Mike worked for Pfizer Pharmaceutical sales for 19 years where he won the following awards: District Rep of the Year many times, Pfizer Labs Vice-President's Circle of Excellence, Nebraska Physician's Assistant Society President's Award, Pfizer Master of Distinction, plus numerous other accolades.
Mike was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church, Izaak Walton League and was a youth football coach. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, the great outdoors, golf and was an avid gun collector.
Survivors include his wife, Jill Jensen, of Ames; son, Dane Jensen, of Ames, daughter, Claire Jensen, of Ames; mother Edie (Wayne) Chadwick, of Topeka, Kan.; brother, Terry (Dena) Jensen, of Weatherford, Okla.; sister, Elaine (Rick) Lewis, of Topeka, Kan.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bea and Russ Bryant, of Washta; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mike Jensen Memorial Fund at Well's Fargo Bank in Ames.
Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
