Howard Dermont Jr., age 80, of Wonder Lake, Ill., died Friday, Dec.14, at Woodstock Residence in Woodstock, Ill. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec.18, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5006 E. Wonder Lake Road, Wonder Lake, Ill. Interment will be in Christ the King Cemetery, Wonder Lake.

Howard Dermont Jr. was born Jan.19, 1927 in Woodstock to Howard Sr. and Myra (Wells) Dermont. He married Joan C. Biggers on October 4, 1952, at Christ the King Church in Wonder Lake.

He was a 47-year resident of Wonder Lake, and formerly resided in Woodstock.

A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, he served during World War II.

He was employed as a buffer by Woodstock Die Casting for over 40 years. Following retirement, he was a very dedicated volunteer for the Salvation Army Golden Diners program, working five days per week for the past ten years.

Enjoyments included fishing in Wonder Lake, Lake Geneva, and the southern Wisconsin area. He also enjoyed music, old movies, crossword puzzles, and in earlier years, playing baseball in Woodstock for the American Legion league. He especially enjoyed the canine companionship of his best buddy, Rowdy.

He was a member of the Woodstock VFW Post 5040.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joan; three children, Scott V. Dermont, of Ames, Steven M. (Dina) Dermont, of Wonder Lake, and Mary Beth (Kevin) Brown, of Woodstock; three grandchildren, Nora, Joseph and Steven; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James, Arthur and Donald; and two sisters, Barbara and Eileen.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Justen's Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 W. Hancock Drive, Wonder Lake, Ill., 60097, with a Christian wake service at 6 p.m.
