COLO - Funeral services for Harold S. Kimberley, 83, of Colo, a former resident of Collins, were held today, Jan. 9, at the Colo United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Robert King, the Rev. Jack Weida and the Rev. Penny Hansel conducted services.

Graveside military rites were conducted by the Collins American Legion Freman-Carver Post 81 at the Peoria Cemetery in Maxwell.

Masonic services were held Sunday at the Cooper Funeral Home at Maxwell and visitation with the family was held Sunday at the funeral home.

He died Thursday at the Colonial Manor Care Center in Zearing.

Survivors are his wife, Cora; a daughter, Brenda Mc Guire of Colo; two grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and three sisters, Minnie Maxwell of Washington, Iowa, Mildred Brinkman of Colo and Kay Armstrong of Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister.

Mr. Kimberley, a resident of Colo for 47 years, had farmed and operated Twin Anchors Camp Ground in Colo, retiring in 1975.

He was a sergeant in the Marines during World War II, serving in the Marshall Island, Tinian Island and Saipan.

He was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church, Rotary Club, Collins American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Shrine and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He had served on the Story County Conservation Board and on the ASCS County Committee for 20 years.

The son of John B. and Minnie Shearer Kimberley, he was born Aug. 10, 1911 in Collins. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995
