THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, November 27, 2007.

Aug. 4, 1935-Nov. 25, 2007

Sherry Allen finally received eternal peace Sunday, Nov. 25, at her home in Ames after an extended battle with M.S. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at First United Methodist Church in Ames, with an Eastern Star Service to follow. The family plans to bury her ashes in the newly established Iowa Veterans Cemetery when it opens in spring 2008.

Sherry Allen was born Aug. 4, 1935, in Carroll, to Warren O. and Madge (Carty) Conner. She grew up on several farms in the Glidden area and graduated from Glidden High School in 1953. She attended Iowa State College, graduating in home economics education in March 1957. She married Robert (Bob) Allen April 20, 1957, in Laramie, Wyo.

She accompanied and supported her husband through a 20-year career in the Air Force, where she was an active volunteer for many years in the Air Force Aid Society. She raised her family in eight different states, living in some of them twice. She taught school in Plattsmouth, Neb., and substituted in the Fort Walton Beach, Fla., school system. She was on the management board of the Air Force Aid Society thrift shop while living in Florida. After moving to Ames, she worked for nearly 20 years in the ISU Department of Continuing Education until her health forced retirement. She enjoyed bowling and many other sports activities as a participant and as a fan and never saw a bridge game she did not like. She supported and participated in the activities of her children and grandchildren, from being the treasurer of the Denbigh Youth Football League in Virginia to being a 10-plus year fixture at dance recitals in Ames. She was an active and avid supporter of all things ISU. She was a member of the Cyclone Club and The Order of The Knoll. She was past Worthy Matron of Laura Chapter No. 115, Order of Eastern Star, The Daughters of The Nile, and Past President of Ames Chapter O, TTT Society. She belonged to First United Methodist Church in Ames.

She is survived by her husband; one sister, Roberta Linn, of Coon Rapids; one brother, Kenneth (Deanna) Conner, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her children, Karen (Mark) Kerper, Marce Allen, Steven (Lisa) Allen and Christine (Charles) Baxter; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Colleen Linn; and an infant brother, Richard.

Those who knew her are not concerned with the listing of what she did. They knew her for who she was - wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend and more. They knew and always will remember her for who she was and what she gave.

Memorials may be given to the TTT Society for the Girls Camp Program or the Shriners Children's Hospital.

Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care of Ames is assisting the family with arrangements.
