THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, October 2, 2007.

Dec. 13, 1932-Sept. 29, 2007

Jack W. Blair, 74, of Ames, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 29, at Israel Family Hospice House after a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. Military rites will be afforded by the American Legion Post 37.

Jack Blair was born Dec. 13, 1932, in Ames, to Alex and Helen (Coy) Blair. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 as a confinement specialist. He married Dorothy McKinley July 5, 1957.

He was a lifelong resident of Story County. He loved his grandkids and his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and his pets.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Blair, of Ames; two daughters, Marla (John) Merrick, of Johnston, and Sheryl (John) Trotter, of Gilbert; one son, Dennis (Deanne) Blair, of Gilbert; six grandchildren, Kayla and Matt Merrick, Jennifer and Alyson Trotter, and Ryan and Kyle Blair; one brother, Frank Blair, of Ames; two sisters, Patricia Krueger, of Des Moines, and Sandy (Darwin) Poock, of Alburnett; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ted Blair.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service Wednesday at Stevens Memorial Chapel.
