Donald A. Swenson, age 65, of Story City died Friday, June 30, 2006 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery near Ellsworth. Visitation was Tuesday, July 4 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. Memorials may be given to the William R. Bliss Cancer Center in Ames.
Donald Adner Swenson was born in Webster City on June 27, 1941 to Adner Sirom and Jennie (Denekas) Swenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. He grew up between Ellsworth and Randall, graduating from Randall High School. He served in the U. S. Army Reserves. On Oct. 22, 1965, Donald married Caroline Mae Thompson at the Salem Lutheran Church near Radcliffe. Donald worked for Walt's in Ames for 30 years in sales and distribution. He also helped farm the' family farm with his brother Kenneth. He enjoyed restoring old farm equipment, collecting toy farm equipment, and his pets.
Donald is survived by his wife, Carol of Story City; two daughters, Jennifer of Story City and Kari of Des Moines; a brother, Kenneth and sister-in-law, Diane of Story City; his father and mother-in-law, Burton and Elsie Thompson of Roland; and a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Tilda Thompson of Ames.
